Pirate Party Cakes & Tutorial

We had a pirate party for my son's first birthday! We had two cakes...a pirate hat & a pirate. Below you'll find a picture tutorial for making a pirate hat! Super easy!! Enjoy & happy baking!

1. Bake two round cakes, level - I made two 8 inchers

 2. Fill with buttercream

3. Cut top portion off as shown below

4. Then cut that in half

5. Assemble as shown below

 6. Frost (no picture) and place in refrigerator for 30mins

7. Cover with black fondant, trim

8. Roll out some white fondant and cut out a skull & crossbones. I used a cookie cutter.

9. Cut out eyes, nose & mouth

10. Roll out a white rope - keep it uniform

11. Dip a paint brush in water - this will be used as the "glue" to stick on embellishments

12. Brush out the outline for the rope as shown below

13. Apply rope to the hat

14. Add on the skull cutout

15. Add chocolate gold coins, ring pops, candy necklaces and other decorations!

Add a pirate to the party too!
