Spider-Man Cake

Sometimes I feel like I eat, sleep, dream CAKES! I am always trying to think of a cool design to try. Since my son adores Spider-Man I decided to give it a go. The cake seems simple enough - the biggest challenge was the shape. Since I didn't have an oval cake pan I had to figure out how to make an oval out of a circle.

I cut a section out of the middle of each cake layer, about 1.5" wide and set those pieces aside. I slid the two sides together on each cake to make ovals. However, the ovals weren't long enough to pass as a face, so I turned the cakes a quarter turn, then cut then in half. I separated the two halves and reinserted sections of the pieces I removed earlier. I was able to make longer ovals this way.

Once the shape was done, the rest was CAKE!! This was a red velvet cake with vanilla buttercream frosting covered in fondant. The only thing I cared about was the big smile on my son's face when I showed him! I love making my boys smile!!
